UNDERSTANDING WINDOW TINT

What Do the Technical Terms Mean?

Window film specifications can be confusing. Here are three common measurements used when comparing tint performance.

VLT — Visible Light Transmission

Measures how much visible light passes through the window film. A lower VLT percentage means a darker tint.

TSER — Total Solar Energy Rejected

Measures the percentage of total solar energy rejected by the film. A higher TSER percentage generally indicates greater overall solar heat rejection.

IRER — Infrared Energy Rejection

Measures how much infrared energy is rejected by the film under the applicable testing method. This is one factor used when evaluating heat-rejection performance.
